What is Floating Furniture?

There are various designing techniques to ensure that the home decor design appears both spacious and appealing. Floating furniture is a common designing technique used by experts in various setups. In this process, all the furnishings in the room are moved to the centre of the room, leaving at least a foot gap from the walls. As a result, the furnishings form an island and only occupy floor space and not walls. Besides making use of space efficiently, this interior design for the home makes the room appear larger because of so much free space.

If you are not sure about this designing style, here are a few pros and cons to understand this technique better:

Pros of Floating Furniture

1 ) More availability of space

If you keep the furniture pieces too close to the wall, it might restrict the flow of traffic. Hence, a floating furniture setup proves to be more advantageous. People can more freely and easily while trying to move in or out from that area.

2 ) Ideal for small rooms

Small rooms appear congested and messy. If you want to create the illusion of more space in the room, consider opting for a floating furniture layout for the interior design of your home. The unused space makes the room appear larger and more spacious.

3 ) Gives a more welcoming feel

Create a space that encourages more meaningful conversations by introducing a floating layout while designing the living room. You do not want to have just formal conversations with a person you are catching up with after years. This design allows people to sit closer and stay relaxed while talking. According to experts, the maximum distance between two people while chatting should not be more than 8 feet. By opting for this furniture layout trick, you can maintain the ideal distance and make your guests feel much cosier and more welcoming.

Cons of Floating Furniture

Not for heavy furnishings

You cannot opt for this designing style if you have heavy furnishings in your home. The essence of the floating design can only be maintained with minimalistic furnishings. This is because heavy furniture will block light and airflow and these are important aspects of the floating furniture layout. Experts always suggest using furniture pieces that are sleek, have thin legs, and slender frames so that the free flow of light and air is not blocked.

Where can you incorporate this technique?

1 ) Bedrooms

A cluttered bedroom appears very unappealing. You can create more space in the bedroom by using this floating furniture layout. It will help to make your bedroom design look much bigger and more welcoming. Experts suggest opting for writing desks that are sleek, beds that do not appear very heavy or big for the room, and tall vanities for the bedroom.

2 ) Living rooms

Many people face difficulty in entertaining guests because the living room size is too small. This problem can be overcome by using the floating furniture layout while designing the living room as it makes the room appear spacious and allows traffic to pass more freely and easily. Also, keeping the furniture pieces closer allows you to have intimate conversations rather than just formal conversations. According to experts, the ideal distance between two people while chatting should not be more than 8 feet. To make sure that the floating layout is appropriate, do not choose heavy furniture pieces. Always opt for options that have a sleek and minimalistic look while designing the living room.

3 ) Dining Rooms

Serving food can be difficult if you do not have a proper setup in the dining room. In the floating furniture layout, the dining table stays in the centre away from the walls and the chairs are placed around it. With so much free space to move freely on all sides, the floating layout proves to be very convenient while serving food. Also, when the dining table is not placed against a wall, the same amount of space can accommodate more people during dinner. However, if the dining table is very large, setting up the floating layout can be difficult.
